Daniel Craig redefined the Bond that we had gotten used to with his daredevilry in the previous Bond installment 'Casino Royale'. Craig showed Bond as a man who was not just suave and clever, but as a man who wouldn't mind getting hurt if his duty demanded it. If there is a painful way of doing things, trust this Bond to do it. Quantum of Solace is one of those rare sequels in the Bond series and the film rests squarely on the strength of its action sequences, which are plentiful and pretty effective.

What is it about:Bond saving the world from a group of villains – No, no – I'm kidding. Quantum of Solace takes off immediately after the death of Vesper Lynd (played by Eva Green) in Casino Royale. Bond is in Italy in the middle of a high octane car chase. He then delivers a crime boss to M (Dame Judi Dench) who finds that her personal bodyguard for the last 5 years is a member of the villain's organization. Bond then goes on the trail of Dominic Greene (Matheu Amalric) and is helped along the way by Camille (Olga Kurylenko) and he uncovers a plot by Greene to take over the world (or atleast a few countries) by controlling their natural resource supplies. The rest is about how Bond foils the plot and also takes his revenge for perhaps the only woman he loved.

What is Good: Quantum has one small moment when Bond shows emotion, when he sits down to hold a dying friend (Giancarlo Giannini who reprises his role as Mathis). It is a brief moment after which Bond is back to his usual ruthless self, but it does offer the audience a rare glimpse into Bond's psyche. The other Bond props are all fantastic. The action is awesome, the chases are awe inspiring, the technology is jaw dropping, the Bond girls (Olga Kurylenko is great as Camille and Gemma Arterton is good eyecandy as Ms. Fields) are beautiful and Bond himself is impeccable. Technically top notch with the editing standing out, the film is a visual treat with all its globe hopping grandeur.

What is not: The plot meanders along and the villains are spineless in the flick, ones that consider themselves powerful by surrounding themselves with heavy duty armory and guards. Also the film does pale in comparison to Casino Royale, the prequel that set the standards for a new Bond to be ushered in.

Me Thinks:Good Bond Movie. If you have not seen Casino Royale, I would recommend you do, otherwise a good bit of the action might go right over your heads. Also, leave alone the comparisons with Casino Royale. Quantum of Solace is a good movie but certainly not amongst the best. It also has traces of the Bourne series in the sense that Bond is being pursued not by the villains, but by his own government.

Tailpiece: If you always wanted to know what Bond's Martini consisted of, you should see this flick. Also, it is difficult to judge a Bond movie. It is just like a Rajni movie in some sense as it features a near invincible man, his extreme resourcefulness, his calm under pressure, his impeccable taste in girls and him saving the world from some cool villains. You enjoy it while it lasts and thats about it!
