Punnami Nagu would fall in that genre of movies that you must definitely avoid to retain your sanity and money. It’s even more disappointing to have a veteran director like Kodandarami Reddy who gave us blockbusters like Khaidi, Kondaveeti Donga, Challenge Pasivadi Pranam to come up with such a mindless flick.

What is it about : The outdated story starts with a bunch of criminals and a tantrik killing a male nag to obtain the mythical diamond which automatically ensures the female nagin (Mumaith Khan) thirsts for revenge. At the same time, the same criminals who are supposedly involved in every crime in the city bump off a honest police officer which has his daughter (Mumaith Khan again) wanting her revenge as well. So the movie predictably has both the Mumaith Khans joining hands to the settle scores while being helped by bunch of petty thieves led by Rajiv Kanakala. So while the movie moves to its predictable climax, one is treated to the mandatory skin show and item numbers by Mumaith Khan, lot of cheap comedy by Rajiv Kanakala, amateurish special effects and a confused screenplay by the director.

What is Good:Nothing to recommend here unless ofcourse you are a Mumaith Khan fan which would leave you very happy with the amount of skin show and item numbers contributed by her. The highlight is Mumaith Khan dancing around in a bikini in a remixed version of the “Ragulthondi Vayusu” song from a Chiranjeevi blockbuster.

What is bad:What is bad is everything that was not mentioned in the “what is good” section. The screenplay consists of scenes thrown together and the technical department contributing with their jerky editing and tacky production design. The music and choreography majorly fails to capitalize on the Mumaith’s USP which is her dancing skills. The less said about the acting… the better!!!

Me Thinks:When the audience has a choice of movies like Arundathi, Akasamantha, Manorama which have strong and diverse subjects to choose from, Punnami Nagu seems hopelessly outdated and very heavily dependent on just skin show to bring in the audiences.

Tailpiece: In one of the many absurd scenes in the movie, Mumaith volunteers to do an item number in a nightclub…supposedly to help her father in a police investigation! So much for trying to fit-in item numbers in a different “situation”!!!
