Silambarasan (aka) Simbu’s Maavadu is a dubbed version of the tamil original ‘Silambattam' . Except for Yuvan Shankar’s catchy compositions the movie was an abject failure in Kollywood and the Telugu version too will meet the same fate.

What is it about : The story is about a young man (Simbu) with a bad past. He turns into an angry rebel who sets about avenging the death of his parents. As such it is a primitive storyline and it is made even worse by a total formulaic treatment that continues to plague bulk of the Indian film industry. Despite having a performance-oriented cast comprising Prabhu and Sneha the movie fails to pick up any momentum in either the first or second half. The movie is an out-and-out Simbu show. He plays a dual role that of father and son! Simbu is a priest in a temple at his native village. Brought up by his uncle (Nedumudi Venu), he leads a happy and contended life serving the village goddess. Saana Khan, who lives in the same town, falls for Simbu's innocence. Others in the village Santhanam, Manobala, and his wife (Nirosha) admire and trust Simbu a lot. Everything is going fine and then enters Prabhu after serving his jail sentence. He reveals in a flashback . how Simbu’s father (again played by Simbu) was done to his w Simbu jr. decides to avenge his parent’s death and how he goes about doing that is the crux of the movie.

What is Good: Yuvan Shankar’s music is the saving grace of the film. The young musician has taken off after his father and the song “Where is the party” is a sure chart topper. Simbu has delivered a decent performance., though his role of the father was a bit stretched. But the boy is good at stunt and dance sequences and looks good on screen. Saana Khan reminds one of Simran, who has acted in similar roles in a lot of films. Kamal Kanna’s stunts are gripping and well executed.

What is bad:Poor characterization, incoherent script and an exceeding dose of double-meaning dialogues top the “what is bad” list of this mediocre flick. Debutant director S.Saravanan has nothing new to offer and tries to play it safe with a formula flick. The result is an end product that tops the list of “movies you never want to watch!” Vulgar comedy assaults the senses of the audience and Santhanam’s double-meaning overdose makes it a distinctly uncomfortable viewing for ladies.

Me Thinks:Give it a miss. Period.
